Japanese Bookbinding

Class Description

Karen Dardinski

Known for her experimental and innovative approach to art, Karen will lead this class in bookmaking. A handbound book will result where students will use a combination of recycled materials and vintage wallpapers, along with handmade Japanese and Italian papers. Closure will be the Japanese side bound technique. These books can be used as sketchbooks, photo albums, journals or guest books, etc. High quality materials and attention to detail assure that these books would also be a lovely gift.

One, 2-hour session: Thursday, October 10, 2024. 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Nock Middle School. Cost $95*. Class Limit: 10.
*Please bring $20 cash or check to the teacher on the night of class for materials fee.

  • Anyone from the Greater Newburyport community is welcome to participate as a student or to become a teacher!
  • Most classes are also available to teens 15 years and over.
  1. If a class is cancelled, a refund or voucher will be given.
  2. Refunds are not given on the day class begins or after a class begins.
  3. If notice of class withdrawal is made within three (3) days prior to the class start date, there is no refund.
  4. In order to receive a refund or class voucher, students must give notice of withdrawal at least 4 days prior to class start date. If you choose a voucher, it may be used anytime for any class and has no expiration date.
  • If, for any reason, the Newburyport schools are closed or cancelled (ie. inclement weather)… GNACE classes will also be cancelled.
  • Check the Website, Facebook, Instagram, or call (978) 992-8060 for class cancellation updates.
  • If a class is canceled, a make-up day will be coordinated with the instructor and students.
  • We do not send registration confirmations. We only contact you if your class is cancelled or full.
  1. To participate you need only basic computer literacy. Primarily the skills required: download, email, word processing, and printing.
  2. You will need to download Zoom onto your computer HERE. And to test your system, Zoom offers a test site HERE.
  3. Here are some instructions on how-to join a meeting with special instructions for Mac and Windows computers.
  4. Please email us and someone will get back to you to discuss the details.
  5. Lastly, we have compiled some guidelines for STUDENTS & INSTRUCTORS.
