Introduction to Canoes and Canoeing – A Practical Workshop

This workshop is for folks interested in a practical introduction to canoes and canoeing, and current canoeists who are interested in why different canoes and paddles behave differently. The course will cover paddling profiles and choosing a canoe; different paddle types, sizing paddles and touch lightly on basic strokes; provide suggestions on how best to allocate your canoeing budget; and present practical tips on things like car topping, canoe maintenance and gear selection. Keith is an enthusiastic year round canoeist, volunteer instructor at the Maine Canoe Symposium, and the “staff” at White Rose Canoe in Newbury, MA.

One, 2-hour class: Thursday, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
May 9, 2024. White Rose Canoe, 291 High Road, Newbury, MA.
Near the Parker River.
Cost: $45. Class Limit: 20.

  • Anyone from the Greater Newburyport community is welcome to participate as a student or to become a teacher!
  • Most classes are also available to teens 15 years and over.
  1. There are no refunds given unless a class is canceled.
  2. There are no refunds given on the day class begins.
  3. There are no refunds given after a class begins.
  4. There are no refunds given if a student withdraws within three (3) days prior to class start date.
  5. In order to receive a refund or class voucher, students must give notice of withdrawal at least 4 days prior to class start date. Vouchers may be used anytime for any class and have no expiration date.
  • If, for any reason, the Newburyport schools are closed or cancelled (ie. inclement weather)… Adult Ed classes will also be cancelled.

  • If a class is canceled, a make-up day will be coordinated with the instructor and students.
  • We do not send registration confirmations. We only contact you if your class is cancelled or full.
  1. To participate you need only basic computer literacy. Primarily the skills required: download, email, word processing, and printing.
  2. You will need to download Zoom onto your computer HERE. And to test your system, Zoom offers a test site HERE.
