Newburyport Adult & Community Education

Kayaking Safety

Class Description

Ron Thurlow

Long-time area kayak enthusiast Ron Thurlow offers this class designed to expand your awareness of trip preparations and favorite spots to paddle in the area. The focus is on trip preparation, typical kayaking hazards, and the unique challenges of paddling in the local area, which can be both amazing and dangerous. With proper awareness and preparation, however, these hazards can be managed to allow full enjoyment of this activity. This class is not a “how-to” paddle or a ”how-to” rescue class.

  • It is focused on risk awareness, risk management and great paddles in the Newburyport area.
  • Ron Thurlow is a member of the Newburyport Harbor Commission.
  • This class is sponsored, in part, by the City of Newburyport Harbor Commission to help foster safe enjoyment of kayaking here in Newburyport.

One, 2-hour class: Monday, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
April 29, 2024. Nock Middle School.
Cost: $45. Class Limit: 20.
