Join us for a relaxing and inspiring watercolor workshop where you’ll learn to paint beautiful peonies step by step! Perfect for beginners and those with some painting experience, this class will guide you through essential watercolor techniques including washes, layering, and blending to create delicate, lifelike florals. We’ll begin with a brief overview of materials and basic watercolor methods, followed by guided instruction. Along the way, you’ll learn tips for mixing colors, creating depth with light and shadow, and capturing the softness of petals with fluid brushwork. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and curiosity! You’ll leave with your own finished floral painting and the confidence to keep exploring watercolor on your own. Alison is a versatile local artist and instructor. She studied Fine Arts at Mass College of Art.

One, 2-hour session. Friday, June 27, 2025. 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Cost: $65. Class Limit: 12.

Location: Central Congregational Church, 14 Titcomb Street, Newburyport. Social Hall.
Parking: Titcomb Street Garage, Green Street Lot, or on-street (2 hour limit). There is NO parking in the church lot. Please enter through the side door on the left.

  • Those are just a few of the nearly 200 exciting classes offered by GNACE each year.
  • Browse our catalog and try something new!
  • Anyone in the Greater Newburyport community and beyond is welcome to take classes or be an instructor.
  • Most classes are available to teens 15 years and older.
  1. If a class is cancelled, a refund or class voucher will be given.
  2. Refunds are not given on the day class begins or after a class begins.
  3. If notice of class withdrawal is made within three (3) days prior to the class start date, there is no refund.
  4. In order to receive a refund or class voucher, students must give notice of withdrawal at least (4) days prior to class start date. If you choose a voucher, it may be used anytime for any class and has no expiration date.
  • If, for any reason, the Newburyport schools are closed or cancelled (ie. inclement weather)… GNACE classes will also be cancelled.
  • Check the Website, Facebook, Instagram, or call (978) 992-8060 for class cancellation updates.
  • If a class is canceled, a make-up day will be coordinated with the instructor and students.
  • We do not send registration confirmations. We only contact you if your class is cancelled or full.

  1. Your instructor will email you the link within 1-week of class start date.
  2. To participate you need only basic computer skills and a strong internet connection.
  3. You will need to download Zoom onto your computer HERE. And to test your system, Zoom offers a test site HERE.
  4. Here are some instructions on how-to join a meeting with special instructions for Mac and Windows computers.
  5. Please email us and someone will get back to you to discuss the details.
  6. Lastly, we have compiled some guidelines for STUDENTS & INSTRUCTORS.
