Class Description
Jana Harris
Join us for a guided mushroom-scouting walk as we explore the fascinating world of fungi in our local woods. As we meander through the trails, participants will have the opportunity to observe a variety of mushroom species up close and learn about the key factors to consider when identifying mushrooms in the wild.
Our walk takes place at Moseley Woods, a scenic 16-acre public park nestled along the Merrimack River, featuring a diverse forest and an extensive trail network. Leading the tour is Jana Harris of Essex Forays, a certified wild mushroom food safety expert and member of the Boston Mycological Club. Originally from Czechoslovakia, Jana grew up foraging mushrooms with her aunt and brings a lifetime of knowledge and passion to her walks.
Please note that mushroom abundance and diversity depends on seasonal weather conditions that are beyond our control. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear, bring water, tick and insect repellent, an ID field guide, and an optional basket for collecting specimens. Participants should be in good physical health and comfortable walking on uneven terrain. Come discover the incredible Fungi Kingdom right outside your door!
