Jana Harris

This is a guided mushroom walk for all those interested in discovering the various fungi. The leader of this guided walking tour will be Jana Harris of Essex Forays, certified in Wild Mushroom Food Safety and member of Boston Mycological Club. Jana hails from Czechoslovakia and as a child, she foraged for mushrooms with her aunt and family and rediscovered her love of all things Fun(gi). Participants will get up close and personal with mushroom species that thrive in this unique environment and also mixed woods. Overlooking the Merrimack River, Moseley Woods is a 16-acre public park featuring hiking trails and a diverse environment. Join us for this interesting class and learn about the amazing Fungi Kingdom right outside your door! Depending upon the weather at that time, the amount and variety of mushrooms to be discovered will vary. Please wear sturdy shoes, bring a water bottle, tick and bug repellent, ID field guide, and basket (optional). Must be in good physical health and feel comfortable walking on uneven terrain on hiking trails.

One, 2-hour class. Saturday, 11:00am – 1:00pm. November 2, 2024.
RAIN DATE: Sunday, November 3, 2024.
Cost: $50. Class Limit: 20.
LOCATION: MOSELEY WOODS. We will meet at the entrance to the trailhead next to the covered picnic tables in the far back parking lot.

  • Anyone from the Greater Newburyport community is welcome to participate as a student or to become a teacher!
  • Most classes are also available to teens 15 years and over.
  1. If a class is cancelled, a refund or voucher will be given.
  2. Refunds are not given on the day class begins or after a class begins.
  3. If notice of class withdrawal is made within three (3) days prior to the class start date, there is no refund.
  4. In order to receive a refund or class voucher, students must give notice of withdrawal at least 4 days prior to class start date. If you choose a voucher, it may be used anytime for any class and has no expiration date.
  • If, for any reason, the Newburyport schools are closed or cancelled (ie. inclement weather)… GNACE classes will also be cancelled.

  • If a class is canceled, a make-up day will be coordinated with the instructor and students.
  • We do not send registration confirmations. We only contact you if your class is cancelled or full.
  1. To participate you need only basic computer literacy. Primarily the skills required: download, email, word processing, and printing.
  2. You will need to download Zoom onto your computer HERE. And to test your system, Zoom offers a test site HERE.
