Build An Enchanting Gingerbread House

Class Description

Mary Dissette.

In this 3-hour workshop, you will assemble and decorate your own gingerbread house, led by veteran instructor Mary Dissette. Create a sweet showstopper to brighten your holidays! Participants will be encouraged to display their finished works at the Port Gingerbread Festival (portgingerbreadfestival.org) on Dec 13th – 15th.

Pre-class homework:

  • If you’re a confident cookie baker, bake six wall/roof cookies (recipe and instructions will be provided upon registration).
  • Alternatively, a purchased kit is acceptable. Bring these to class, along with whatever edibles you choose (candies, nuts, etc.) to make your unique vision become a reality.
  • You will learn royal icing techniques for construction success and how to add charming details.
  • Special icing, piping tools, and a sturdy wooden base will be provided.

One 3-hour session: Sunday, 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. December 1, 2024.
Location: Congregation Ahavas Achim, 53 1/2 Washington Street, Newburyport.
Cost: $75*. Class Limit: 8.
*Please bring $15 cash or check to the teacher on the day of class for materials fee.

  • Anyone from the Greater Newburyport community is welcome to participate as a student or to become a teacher!
  • Most classes are also available to teens 15 years and over.
  1. If a class is cancelled, a refund or voucher will be given.
  2. Refunds are not given on the day class begins or after a class begins.
  3. If notice of class withdrawal is made within three (3) days prior to the class start date, there is no refund.
  4. In order to receive a refund or class voucher, students must give notice of withdrawal at least 4 days prior to class start date. If you choose a voucher, it may be used anytime for any class and has no expiration date.
  • If, for any reason, the Newburyport schools are closed or cancelled (ie. inclement weather)… GNACE classes will also be cancelled.
  • Check the Website, Facebook, Instagram, or call (978) 992-8060 for class cancellation updates.
  • If a class is canceled, a make-up day will be coordinated with the instructor and students.
  • We do not send registration confirmations. We only contact you if your class is cancelled or full.
  1. To participate you need only basic computer literacy. Primarily the skills required: download, email, word processing, and printing.
  2. You will need to download Zoom onto your computer HERE. And to test your system, Zoom offers a test site HERE.
  3. Here are some instructions on how-to join a meeting with special instructions for Mac and Windows computers.
  4. Please email us and someone will get back to you to discuss the details.
