Christopher Brown
What set The Beatles apart? Was it the strength of their songwriting, or the restless exploration and craft they brought to the recording studio. Perhaps it was the wide stylistic breadth of their catalog, or the interplay of four distinct personalities whose creative instincts complemented and challenged one another. Their music fused intelligence with emotional immediacy. It drew on a wide range of influences and yet was startlingly original. In their day, the Beatles charted the course of popular music, and their recordings continue to maintain healthy sales today. Over the course of two weekly sessions, we will listen to selected recordings and explore the unique qualities that fueled their seminal artistic and cultural impact. Christopher Brown is a jazz guitarist and instructor who has been listening to the Beatles since they first appeared on the Ed Sullivan show in February, 1964.
