Class Description
Chris Martel
Are you intrigued about how NASA captures and processes those iconic images taken by the James Webb and the Hubble Space Telescopes? Do you want to take your own images of space? Instructor Chris Martel will show you images he’s taken from his own backyard here in Newburyport so you may see what is possible. You will learn what you need to begin capturing your own images beginning with a simple digital camera and building to small telescopes, then learn about free software available to process your images and combine them into something you will be proud to show family and friends. You will be amazed at what you can do from your own backyard! Chris Martel has a PhD in Physics, and has held faculty appointments at Boston University, Harvard Medical School, and is currently an adjunct professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He has been an avid amateur astronomer his entire life and an Astrophotographer for the past 14 years. He is an active member of the Aldrich Astronomical Society.
