Write Better, Feel Better

Class Description

An introduction with Ellen Szabo

This workshop is designed to introduce students to the ways in which creative writing can help to transform perspectives and improve wellbeing. The stories we tell and believe about ourselves and our lives are very powerful. Whether in fiction or memoir, creative writing can help us to transform stories that might be hold-ing us back, and research demonstrates that writing can help us to feel better. In a supportive, stimulating atmosphere, participants will learn how writing has been used to improve wellbeing; explore and experi-ment with the use of writing to feel better; and discover techniques for effective, evocative writing. Partici-pants will have opportunities to respond to writing prompts/ten minute free-writes, and to read their work for facilitated discussion and feedback. Previous writing experience is not necessary, focus is on exploration, personal investigation, and discovery of each person’s unique writing voice.
