Voices of the New Generation of African Women




Class Description

Local poet and writer, Sandra Thaxter introduces the writings of emerging African women writers. She has selected Material from a collection of short stories, Nothing to See Here and a poetry collection, Wondering and Wandering of Hearts. (Both books are available for purchase through Jabberwocky; however, copies of materials for discussion will be provided.) Each class will begin with readings followed by discussion. Sandra’s hope is that the class will open the door to the rich body of work coming out of a new generation of young African women.

Two, 2-hour sessions: Thursdays, 10:00 a.m. – noon.
Begins October 3, 2019. Unitarian Church,
Pleasant Street, Newburyport.
Cost: $30. No class limit.

Sandra Thaxter is a local writer, and poet. She recently published a chapbook, ‘The Colors of Water the Shapes of Stone’, and has poems in several Ibbetson Street Journal issues. She lives in Newburyport, and has academic background in French, German literature & language, and Comparative Literature.
