Class Description
Maurice Martini
Are you curious about the universe? Do you have an interest in celestial objects and phenomena beyond what can be seen? Radio astronomy is the study of celestial bodies by examination of the radio-frequency energy they emit or reflect. Visual astronomy only encompasses a tiny portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that can be explored. At one end of this spectrum, there are Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) which are the most energetic events to occur in the universe. However, on the other end of the spectrum is the Very Low Frequency (VLF) range. VLF radio astronomy is probably the easiest form of astronomy (outside of buying a telescope) that can be undertaken. There are natural radio events from the earth, effects from meteors, solar flares and GRBs that can be observed. If you have but a nascent interest in radio astronomy, then you won’t want to miss this class!
