Class Description
Andrea Cleghorn
Memoir can take many forms, but what differentiates it from autobiography is what it is not: a comprehensive story of the author’s life, but focusing instead on a specific time period or theme. The difference proves to be both liberating and challenging for the writer. It’s all about the stories. This workshop is intended to take you as a class member from wherever you are and encourage you to move forward with the help and example of fellow writers and friendly listeners. The important thing is to start writing and keep going. Andrea will offer guidelines on a topic, how to develop scenes, create dialogue, and avoid pitfalls.
Class members will read something from their own writing each week, whether it is from the memoir in progress or a weekly prompt. Andrea Cleghorn is a journalist, nonfiction author, and writing coach.
