Class Description
Danny Harrington
In this class, Newburyport local Jazz legend Danny Harrington will discuss Jazz music from the first two thirds of the twentieth century – early 1900s through the 1960s. The class will include active listening to various pieces followed by interactive student discussion of the different styles that evolved over this time period. The class will focus on gaining a basic understanding of how jazz music is written, structured and performed so that listeners can better appreciate what they are hearing. The pieces we will listen to will be understood in their historical context and we will analyze what the composer and performers are doing and why. The goal of the class is to guide and encourage participants to gain a better understanding and love of this unique American art form. No previous musical training or experience is required. Just bring your curiosity and questions! Danny is a true artist who has taught at the Berklee School of Music for 42 years. He is generously donating his time to share his expertise and passion.
