First Time Home Buying

Class Description

Thinking of buying your first home? It can be both exciting and daunting. You’ll be in a better position for when the time comes if you prepare ahead of time to ensure a more enjoyable and less stressful experience. Understanding the process and potential pitfalls is essential. In this class, three industry experts will discuss the steps of the home buying process from soup to nuts, including pre-approval to making the offer to closing. When and what to expect when submitting an offer, bidding wars, inspections, documents required to process your application, income & down payment sources, mortgage insurance, and the legal obligations and responsibilities that are inherent within the real estate purchase and sale agreement will also be discussed. You’ll leave with the knowledge you need to comfortably and confidently purchase your first home and realize your dream of home ownership.

One, 2.5-hour session: Wednesday, 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.
April 24, 2024. Nock Middle School.
Cost: $50. Class Limit: 20.

  • Anyone from the Greater Newburyport community is welcome to participate as a student or to become a teacher!
  • Most classes are also available to teens 15 years and over.
  1. There are no refunds given unless a class is canceled.
  2. There are no refunds given on the day class begins.
  3. There are no refunds given after a class begins.
  4. There are no refunds given if a student withdraws within three (3) days prior to class start date.
  5. In order to receive a refund or class voucher, students must give notice of withdrawal at least 4 days prior to class start date. Vouchers may be used anytime for any class and have no expiration date.
  • If, for any reason, the Newburyport schools are closed or cancelled (ie. inclement weather)… Adult Ed classes will also be cancelled.
  • Check the Website, Facebook, Instagram, or call (978) 992-8060 for class cancellation updates.
  • If a class is canceled, a make-up day will be coordinated with the instructor and students.
  • We do not send registration confirmations. We only contact you if your class is cancelled or full.
  1. To participate you need only basic computer literacy. Primarily the skills required: download, email, word processing, and printing.
  2. You will need to download Zoom onto your computer HERE. And to test your system, Zoom offers a test site HERE.
  3. Here are some instructions on how-to join a meeting with special instructions for Mac and Windows computers.
  4. Please email us and someone will get back to you to discuss the details.
  5. Lastly, we have compiled some guidelines for STUDENTS & INSTRUCTORS.
