Class Description
Maurice Martini
Have you ever dreamed of talking to an astronaut in outer space? How amazing would it be to hear their stories, ask them questions, and see their perspective of our planet? Whether you are a student, a teacher, a ham radio operator, a journalist, or just a curious space enthusiast, this session will offer you a glimpse into what kind of technology and challenges are involved in setting up a live radio link with the International Space Station (ISS). Join Maurice Martini in learning how schools and students use amateur (ham) radio to interact with the crew aboard the ISS, through an educational outreach program sponsored by NASA. A mixture of informative slides and actual recordings of various contacts will be shown and discussed. By the end of this session, you will have a better understanding of how communication with the ISS is possible, and what it takes to talk to the stars.
