Are you interested in learning which side of your family arrived in the U.S. first, how they traveled here and from where, or even how and where your grandparents met? For anyone who has wondered about these and other family history questions, this class is for you! Instructor Lisa Powis has spent over 20 years researching the basic history and genealogy of her family and is eager to share her skills. If you’re interested in researching your own family history, this class will explain the process, share a wide range of resources, and discuss any research pitfalls to avoid. Participants will learn how to assemble a family genealogical history that will be treasured by every family. This class requires some work and basic computer skills but is extremely gratifying and fun!

Five, 2-hour sessions: Tuesdays, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Begins April 30, 2024. Nock Middle School.
Cost: $105. Class Limit: 8.

While we operate under the auspices of the Newburyport Public Schools, NACE receives no public funding from the City of Newburyport or school system.   • Anyone from the Greater Newburyport community is welcome to participate as a student or to become a teacher!
  • Most classes are also available to teens 15 years and over.
  1. There are no refunds given unless a class is canceled.
  2. There are no refunds given on the day class begins.
  3. There are no refunds given after a class begins.
  4. There are no refunds given if a student withdraws within three (3) days prior to class start date.
  5. In order to receive a refund or class voucher, students must give notice of withdrawal at least 4 days prior to class start date. Vouchers may be used anytime for any class and have no expiration date.
  • If, for any reason, the Newburyport schools are closed or cancelled (ie. inclement weather)… Adult Ed classes will also be cancelled.
  • Check the Website, Facebook, Instagram, or call (978) 992-8060 for class cancellation updates.
  • If a class is canceled, a make-up day will be coordinated with the instructor and students.
  • We do not send registration confirmations. We only contact you if your class is cancelled or full.
  1. To participate you need only basic computer literacy. Primarily the skills required: download, email, word processing, and printing.
  2. You will need to download Zoom onto your computer HERE. And to test your system, Zoom offers a test site HERE.
  3. Here are some instructions on how-to join a meeting with special instructions for Mac and Windows computers.
